SSH Tunnel Proxy Setup Instructions

To set up the SSH tunnel:

This setup works the same for Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000.

  1. Download the FindNot SSH tunnel software. It is in a zip file. Extract the files (Windows can do it for you from a Right-Click) to a convenient place such as your desktop.
  2. Configure your Browser:
    1. FireFox 2+
      1. Choose Tools--> Options--> Advanced--> Network--> Connection settings.
      2. Choose 'Manual proxy configuration'
      3. Enter 127.0.0.1 in the 'SOCKS Host' ONLY
      4. Enter 1088 in the 'Port' box.
      5. The "Use No Proxy" box AND ALL OTHER BOXES should be blank.
      6. Click ok
    2. Internet Explorer 7
      1. Start Internet Explorer, click Tools-->Internet Options.
      2. Click on 'Connections' Tab.
      3. Click on 'LAN Settings'
      4. Check the 'Use Proxy Server' box, Click on 'Advanced'.
      5. In the SOCKS box ONLY (the other boxes should be blank), input the following:
        1. 127.0.0.1 in the address box
        2. 1088 in the port box.
        3. UNCHECK "Use the same proxy server for all protocols".
        4. The exeptions box should be blank.
      6. Click OK.
  3. Be sure that you are connected to the internet, and open the ssh tunnel by clicking on one of the "Start Server XX SSH Tunnel.bat" (where xx is the server number) in the files that you downloaded.
  4. Enter your username. NOTE: ENTER YOUR USERNAME IN ALL LOWERCASE. ENTER YOUR PASSWORD CASE SENSITIVE.
  5. After entering your user/pass, you will be connected.

Open your browser. You can check your connection by going to our home page, http://www.whatismyip.com, http://www.dnsstiff.com or a similar site. What will show is the IP address of whichever server you are connected to.

To disconnect, simply close the putty window.
